PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Every day, as I enter Old Main, I’m reminded of the fortitude of our founding Spiritans, who literally started with nothing and built not just a magnificent edifice on top of the Bluff, but a truly great University.
Every hour, as I work alongside dedicated board members, administrators, faculty and staff, I’m amazed by their resourcefulness and resolve in their commitment to our singular mission at Duquesne. As I interact with the wonderful students we’re called to serve, I see them grow in knowledge and confidence. And every evening, as I leave campus, I’m reminded of our even greater potential—the bigger goals—we pursue for these students, so that they can make their own impacts and contributions.
Against a global pandemic and social unrest that has challenged us all, the Duquesne community has not just survived, we have thrived. We’ve pursued an ambitious Strategic Plan. We’ve developed and deployed a new undergraduate common learning experience; elevated diversity, equity, inclusion and community engagement; built a new home for our athletic programs; and laid the groundwork for our most ambitious and transformative step ever—the establishment of a new College of Osteopathic Medicine.
All of this has been made possible by an unprecedented outpouring of financial support by those who care about the distinctive mission of Duquesne. In fact, IGNITE is not just the most ambitious campaign in the University’s history, it’s already the most successful.
Why are we forging onward toward an even bigger—some might call it audacious—goal?
To forge a future worthy of our founders. The Spiritans didn’t stop when they built Old Main. Their Pittsburgh Catholic College became Duquesne University, expanding in response to ever-changing needs in the region and the world. It’s in their nature—and ours—to think beyond the here and now, to anticipate what’s next, and to be prepared to create the future. IGNITE is not just about providing resources for today; it’s about what Duquesne will be 10 years from now—and beyond.
Every gift kindles the Spirit that Gives Life and strengthens Duquesne. It only takes a spark to IGNITE.
